Dutch Mill Motel was completely destroyed.
Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a Shelburne motel.
The blaze broke out before midnight Saturday at the Dutch Mill Motel on Shelburne Road. The building was completely destroyed. No one was injured but eight people are seeking emergency shelter. Investigators don't know what started the fire, but say it is suspicious.

Motel Brown in Burlington was notorious for its high number
of visits from the police for problems ranging from assaults to drug dealing. Now it has changed hands. The new owners say the bad days are gone forever.
The most obvious change is the sign announcing the Champlain Inn, the new name for the motel that has stood here on Shelburne street not far from downtown since the early 1950s -- the Motel Brown. Over the years police got to know the old place well.
"We had instances where we and the fire department were responding there several times each week," Lt.Walter Decker of the Burlington Police Department told Channel 3, "ranging from noise, intoxicated persons, persons in need of assistance, drug overdoses..."
... Riley ran the Mid Town Motel in Burlington, owned by the same partners. Since taking over the Champlain Inn he keeps a close eye on things with a newly-installed digital video system. It puts a damper on drug dealing and anyone who doesn't want his face identified.

New owners have taken over Burlington's Motel Brown
hoping to put a fresh shine on the storied inn known as much for its rough reputation as for overnight accommodations.
The cream-colored building on Shelburne Street has a new name, the Champlain Inn, a face lift inside and out, and a new owner who wants to banish the former motel's reputation for good.
Mike Riley bought the Motel Brown in April with business partners, moved into the house above the motel office and oversees the building's refurbishment. Riley has spent the past seven years manning the counter at the Mid-Town Motel, another once-notorious Burlington inn.
Motel Brown housed dealers selling hundreds of dollars of heroin, served as refuge for a woman who allegedly robbed the nearby Dunkin' Donuts and hosted many a drunken fight and late-night party in recent years.
The city grappled with former owners over code violations in 2000 and began to see improvements, Burlington Code Enforcement Officer Ray O'Connor said.
Radisson Hotel Burlington finished the year by closing one of
its two restaurants.
Seasons on the Lake closed Jan. 1. Two employees lost jobs as a result, said General Manager Joe Carton. The 90-seat restaurant was open five days a week for dinner.
Business was not strong enough to justify keeping the restaurant, Carton said. The space continues to be available for private functions.
The closure coincided with the loss of management jobs at the hotel. Two of the hotel's 21 managers were cut, Carton said.
The cuts were made at the behest of Radisson's corporate parent, Wyndham International Inc., as part of a corporation-wide cutback due to poor performance in the weak economy, Carton said. The Radisson finished the year slightly behind last year, which was better than many other hotels, Carton said.
The Radisson Hotel Burlington has 256 rooms and 14 conference rooms, and employs 200 full- and part-time employees.
