Dan Higgins' Home page -- photographic journal I make photographs to connect with aspects of the world that would otherwise be inaccessible to me. I try to find forms that will communicate with others, will elicit response, and will reframe conventional ways of thinking. In much of my work I use photography to engage in the social life of communities. Meanings are socially constructed and it is an integral part of my working methods to seek local input through dialogue within the community. I exhibit images publicly, as I make them, in storefront windows or elsewhere central to the community, both to give a context for the work I am doing and to invite individual participation in the event. It is the dialogue within the communites, and the responses of the participants, that establishes the direction each project will take. On this page are some images I have made over the years.
