Burlington Hash House Harriers is a club that takes part is what they called a hash. The hash is a cross country trail set by one or two volunteers, known as the hares. The hares lay a 2-5 mile trail with biodegradable flour. The runners/walkers, known as the hounds, follow this trail though the woods, rivers, streets, playgrounds and sometimes messy ("shiggy") areas, in search of the end, which is where lots of beer and food awaits the tired pack. "Hashing" is the act of participating in the hash. A typical hash will cost you .00 - .00 for beer and munchies. Two things you can always count on at a Burlington Hash - beer at the end of our runs, and plenty of FUN people to socialize with each week. As being the newest hash in the Greater Burlington area, we pride ourselves on having a party-like atmosphere at every hash. Click here to read more.

Cub Scout Pack 658-Winooski has been providing a quality Scout program for boys from first through fifth grades. The last three years have seen unprecidented growth in the number of boys in our Pack. Active leadership and exciting oppertunities are two of the reasons that we have seen this surge in interest. Our leadership team is drawn from parents who have a personal interest in the growth of their boys and the development of the Pack. This provides us with adults who are as excitied as our Scouts in learning and experiencing new things. Our Pack events for 2002-2003 include many camping trips, the Pinewood Derby in January, an overnight camp at the Boston Science Museum in April, camping in May, a hike up Mount Philo in June, Summer Camps, and our Family campout in August. Our Pack meetings are held at 6:30 PM on the second Wednesday of each month at the Saint Francis Xavier School, 5 Saint Peter Street in Winooski. We would encourage any boy interested in Scouting to come and join us. Click here to read more.

Good News Club is an After-school group learning about Bible. A group of about 10 elementary- and middle-school children had fun playing a unique type of bingo on a recent afternoon in the KIVA room at Williston Central School. They had to correctly answer four questions about a Bible lesson to complete their bingo cards and shout "Moses!" -- instead of bingo -- to win. The children played Moses Bingo at the Good News Club, an after-school, Christian-based Bible group that meets Thursday afternoons. Sponsored by the Child Evangelism Fellowship, with headquarters in St. Louis, the club has been meeting since 2006, from October to April, and is coordinated by Williston resident Beverly Ronco. The purpose of the club is to allow interested children to learn about God through the Bible and to teach a love for God, parents, teachers, the country and others around them, Ronco said. Green Mountain Volleyball Club has been around since 1998. Thanks mainly to our board members, Bill Orleans and Jerry (aka Shank) Wood, that keep coming back to see things through and of course YOU our members. I am one of the newer Board members. Now I am also the design/maintenance man for this site, my name is John Lashua. I have been around GMVB since 1999 playing and helping set up the tournaments (nets/tents/etc.). A few years ago I decided it was time to take part in something I felt strongly about, so here I am. So, here we go... let's do something positive to make a difference in the future of this great sport in local awareness and new/repeating participation. Teach the young and hone the not so young. Members of the Pagan Cluster directed Church Street Marketplace shoppers to where fellow volunteers from the Pagan Cluster were offering free cookies and warm drinks. Members of the Pagan Cluster practice nature-based spirituality and political activism. They believe that power should not be expressed as power over others. So along with the goodies, shoppers were offered a chance to spend money on peace. They jotted down wishes in magic marker on the back of damp play , , and bills which the group plans to mail toPresident George Bush. The point was to show that citizens "can use our resources in different ways," said nurse practitioner Joanne Hunt, a member of the group. ... The two groups decided to gather at the same time Friday to draw attention to International Buy Nothing Day, which coincided with the traditional kick-off to the Christmas shopping season. Their don't-shop-till-you-drop theme caught people's attention.

Northwestern Vermont Model Railroad Society Formed in 1978, the NWV, as it is called, has provided a gathering place for model railroaders from all over Vermont. We currently reside in Essex Junction, Vermont. We hold our weekly meetings on Wednesday nights at 7:00. Our main focus is our 1200 square foot HO scale layout of the NWV. The layout is a point-to-point style with lower level staging yards accessed by two helixes in opposite corners of the room. We run our trains using a North Coast Engineering DCC system courtesy of Tony's Train Exchange. We use car cards and waybills during our operating sessions to simulate real railroad operation. With a dispatcher, a yardmaster, and multiple crews all operating at the same time, we us portable radios to communicate all train movements. Several portions of the layout are complete, though much still remains under construction. There is plenty to do for people of all skills and abilities, and more hands are always welcome. Please feel free to contact us at any time. Click here to read more.

St. Michael's College Ski and Snowboard Club president, Michael Hayes, has devoted much of his time to improving the club’s participation and recognition. New last year was the first annual St. Michael’s Jibfest. The event, in the 300s field, brings a piece of the mountain to campus by providing man-made snow, professional rails, and a competitive atmosphere. Hayes says that there have always been numerous Jibfests, but they were on a much smaller scale. ... This year the St. Michael’s Ski and Snowboard Club has 250 members. Hayes says the club targets skiers and snowboarders and it is not exclusive to ability levels. The future of the club will rest in the hands of the executive board that Hayes is trying to put together, he says. He is amazed with how much the club has grown. Before its success, the St. Michael’s Ski and Snowboard Club was somewhat frowned upon by the school, Hayes says. Click here to read more.

Vermont's first laughing club. -- Cooper-Ellis is part of a group that has met weekly since September in the basement lobby of Burlington's Union Station to get in a few sets of laughter and to sing the praises of hilarity. "It is physically very good for you. There are many health benefits to laughing," said Carol L. Winfield, a teacher at the Vermont Yoga Center and the official leader of the club. "It gets the endorphins (the body's natural proteins) up and helps you fight disease. And it is very good for the belly," she said. Each Tuesday morning at 8, the Burlington group begins the day with stretching and breathing exercises, followed by one of three laughing sets. Each set lasts for five straight minutes. The activity is more than enough to get the heart rate racing. Winfield contends that the laughing regimen is better than a flu shot and can even deliver better results than a facial.
