GMP Agrees to Binding Arbitration
on Two Key Strike Issues
GMP Agrees to Binding Arbitration
COLCHESTER, Vt., Jan. 16 --
Green Mountain Power said today
that it will use binding arbitration to resolve two key strike issues if 101
employees would accept all other contract issues and return to work.
Dorothy Schnure, spokesperson for GMP, said, "the company is very anxious to bring this unnecessary strike to an end."
GMP told the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 300
today that the Company would arbitrate the two issues of a trouble crew and
storm readiness if the final offer of January 16 was ratified and accepted by
union members.
The final offer provides for increases of 3 percent, 3.5 percent and 4
percent over the three years of the contract. The average union wage is $21 an
hour, and with overtime the average annual gross pay of the union members is
$51,312. The offer continues to provide at least 90 percent of a comprehensive
medical plan.
Once the new contract is ratified and in effect, the Company's and union's
positions on trouble crew and storm readiness would be submitted to binding,
neutral arbitration. The decision of the arbitrator shall be final and
binding. All costs and fees of the arbitrator shall be paid equally by the
Company and the Union, GMP said.
The Company said it was also pleased to receive a communication from the
IBEW on January 15 regarding arbitration. GMP said the Company appreciates the
union's offer to end the strike and arbitrate this dispute.
