Sneakers Bistro and Cafe'is exclusively a breakfast, lunch and brunch place that closes at 3pm and opens in the evening only for private parties.
In business since 1980, Sneakers brags about being the oldest eating and drinking establishment in Winooski. The place has a casual, art deco décor. The building that houses the restaurant was erected in the late 1800s, and the original pressed tin ceiling remains. The walls are decorated with the works of local artists, many of them for sale. Behind the bar is a huge, dramatic fan-shaped cut- glass mirror.
The menu, while heavy on the breakfast items (eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles and home fries, to name a few), has lunch standards too, from cheeseburgers to chicken breast sandwiches, and an extensive vegetarian menu, with nothing priced at more than $7.50. In spite of the vestigial full bar from its nightclub days, Sneakers management discourages folks from just wandering in to have a drink. (cafe)
