Friends open Wings Over Burlington in Blue Mall
When the friends started brainstorming a change of career together, the restaurant business appealed to them. “I love food,” DeMaroney said. “I’ve always wanted to do something with food.” But, she acknowledged, “We didn’t have any restaurant experience. We knew we needed people to tell us how to do it, how to order, pretty much everything.”
In Albany, they had become familiar with Wings Over Albany, a casual take-out spot with a wide menu of wings, as well as some sandwiches and ribs. When they started investigating, it turned out that it was the fourth outlet of a relatively new franchise group based on a restaurant created in 1999 in Amherst, Mass.
They felt instinctively that the concept would work in their hometown and it turned out that the president of Wings Over, Mark Simonds, had already visited Burlington and judged it an ideal market for the college-focused brand.

Ice House Restaurant & Bar
is located in a 199-year-old ice house. This casual yet classy waterfront steak and seafood restaurant has two large decks. Brunch served from Mother's Day through mid-October.
The food and service are very inconsistant.Seems like each of their chefs has their own way of making the same dish!I often order the same few things(Fra Diavlo,Spinach Salad...)remembering how great they were 'that time', but never really knowing what to expect. Our last visit was a few weeks ago-the meal was pretty good(I actually tried something new..)my date and I ordered two different 'Specials' we spotted on the board on the way in and asked the server about them. All the reviews are mediocre to negative.

I have tried everything possible to be able to stay here (on Main Street in Burlington, Vermont), as I have made many friends over the past three years and want very much to remain in business. But I have been given no other options except to leave at the end of the month.

Red Onion Café
is A small, local sandwich shop famous for it's Red Onion Sandwich. It offers homemade bread, soups, salads and a variety of backed goods and other snacks. It is not a fancy place, but famous among locals for having great sandwiches. It resides at 140 1/2 Church Street in Burlington. The chefmoz.org dining Guide says, "The Red Onion is a sandwich which, if you haven't tried, you're missing one of Burlington's innovative and proprietary culinary delights. Toasted on fresh bread, it consists of turkey, bacon, smoked gruyere, apple slices, a delicious sun-dried tomato tarragon mayonnaise, and of course, red onions. It is one of the best sandwiches you will ever eat.
They also serve a variety of soups and baked goods to complement their sandwich line. Just about everything they serve is top-notch in the taste and quality department. And oh, do they know it.
I have watched the prices at the Red Onion Cafe steadily climb skyward over the last few years."
Red Square Bar and Grill
is at 136 Church Street and resembles a liquor bar expensively priced cafe.
When popular jazz clubs Sneakers, Lost Elm and Rio closed in 1997, the local jazz crowd migrated to Red Square. It's now recognized as one of the best places in Burlington to catch free live music every night but Sunday.
Red Square primarily attracts a mature and -- relative to Burlington -- cosmopolitan clientele. It's one of the few bars in town where you can order a martini without receiving a smirk from the bartender. The bright and airy space is dominated by copper walls, and the main room features a wall of windows. You can also check out the work of local artists, whose works are exhibited in Red Square’s unofficial art gallery.
The menu is primarily light fare, like salads, soups and wraps. Seafood is one of Red Square's specialties, and both the fried calamari and fresh cashew burger are recommended by the Burlington Church Street Marketplace.

Sneakers Bistro and Cafe'
is exclusively a breakfast, lunch and brunch place that closes at 3pm and opens in the evening only for private parties.
In business since 1980, Sneakers brags about being the oldest eating and drinking establishment in Winooski. The place has a casual, art deco décor. The building that houses the restaurant was erected in the late 1800s, and the original pressed tin ceiling remains. The walls are decorated with the works of local artists, many of them for sale. Behind the bar is a huge, dramatic fan-shaped cut- glass mirror.
The menu, while heavy on the breakfast items (eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles and home fries, to name a few), has lunch standards too, from cheeseburgers to chicken breast sandwiches, and an extensive vegetarian menu, with nothing priced at more than .50. In spite of the vestigial full bar from its nightclub days, Sneakers management discourages folks from just wandering in to have a drink. (cafe)

The Red Onion Café was closed for failing its food inspection.
The state of Vermont closed The Red Onion Cafe on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont after they failed their food and safety inspection. The employees cleaned up the Cafe and were allowed to reopen four hours later. Problems found included:
The state Health Department inspection program rates restaurants
on 44 measures of food handling and housekeeping. The department has put extra emphasis on 13 of the measures....These "critical" items must be corrected during the time of inspection.... Points are subtracted from a score of 100 for each failing noted by the inspector..... A restaurant must score above 70 and have all critical items corrected or the establishment will be asked to close. The Burlington Free Press keeps a running list of the most recent score for all restaurants, listed by town (or for all towns in Vermont).

Wings Over Burlington
is the newest franchisee in the Wings Over chain. They are located in the “Blue Mall” across from the University Mall in Burlington Vermont. ... The interior is very clean featuring diamond-plate on the walls, silver metal chairs, silver metal tables, (as well as high-def TVs). It’s like a sports bar feel with no booze, and less kitsch (sublte airplane interior). What is a little kitschy is the airplane themed menu. I ordered the “puddle jumper” which is 10 wings.
The red alert sauce is good, medium spicy, tastes like standard Frank’s Red Hot with more of a tomato sauce base. ... The wings were a little crispy, but failed the #1 rule of wings… chicken fat must be fully rendered. So despite the favorable hot sauce, I didn’t care for these wings. It’s disappointing that a wing “specialist” would under-cook their wings, my office-mate confirmed his wings were cooked even less than mine (no crispness).
