When you click on a link in my directories, the web site you are requesting will be opened in a separate window or tab. This worked great until version six. Bruegger's Bagel Bakery
are genuine, New York-style, water bagels. No fakes. No phonies. We make them the way they were meant to be baked. We start with the purest, highest quality ingredients: high protein, unbleached, wheat flour, fresh (never powdered) yeast, malt syrup, water and salt.
Some other bagels have preservatives or oils added. Not Bruegger's Bagels. Some other bagel joints steam their bagels. Some freeze theirs for ease in transportation. Not Bruegger's. We make only authentic, old-fashioned, kettle boiled bagels in each one of our bagel bakeries every day in small batches all day long.

Dunkin' Donuts
has been around since 1950. Today, loyal customers like you can be found in 40 different countries, stopping off for a cup of our world-famous coffee and a fresh, delicious donut, bagel, muffin, or other baked good.
It all started in 1946 when Mr. William Rosenberg founded Industrial Luncheon Services, a company that delivered meals and coffee break snacks to factory workers in the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. The success of Industrial Luncheon Services led Rosenberg to open his first coffee and donut shop, the "Open Kettle". Then, in 1950, Rosenberg opened the first store known as Dunkin' Donuts in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Bouyea Fassetts Bakery in South Burlington was closed
Friday, leaving 64 workers without jobs.
Lou Minella, spokesman for George Weston Bakeries Inc., which owns Bouyea Fassetts, said the company was closing its Vermont site because it was able to produce the same volume of baked goods with fewer plants.
... The company asked all the employees to go to a nearby hotel for the news Friday morning. They stayed for an hour, many people crying and hugging.
Roger Metivier, 53, of South Burlington had worked at the plant for 15 years. Many of the younger employees called him Dad. He was the union president at the plant for 13 years.
About a week ago, he started hearing rumors that the plant was destined for shutdown. People couldn't believe it at first because the plant had survived so long, including multiple owners. By the time the official announcement came, the workers were inured to the news.
... Workers who lost their jobs include bakers, mixers, oven operators and maintenance staff, Minella said.
Even though the Bouyea Fassetts' South Burlington bakery
closed Friday, the company thrift stores will remain open, company officials said. Bouyea Fassetts has two thrift stores in the area, in South Burlington and Essex Junction.
"The thrift stores will remain open and fresh sales will remain normal to all markets," said Stephen Freese, regional sales manager. Bouyea Fassetts will continue to use the South Burlington bakery as a distribution center, Freese said.
The stores carry a variety of baked goods from Thomas' English muffins and bagels to bread and doughnuts made under the various brands owned by George Weston Ltd. The brands include Thomas', Freihofer, Arnold and Entenmann's.
Wanda Hines, director of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, was also happy to hear that the stores would remain open. The food shelf counts on the stores for donations once or twice a week, Hines said.
After Country Kitchen closed about a year and a half ago Bouyea Fassetts has been the food shelf's main source for conventional sliced bread,

Klinger's Bread Company
--- Rugged, healthy, hearty, crusty, chewy... these are just a few words overheard to describe the breads of Klinger's. Our breads are proudly brought to Vermont by the Klingebiel families of Colchester, Vermont and Salem, New York by way of the renowned Rock Hill Bake house.
These flavorful, authentic European breads were developed by Michael London, described as a "baking genius" by bread writer Bernard Clayton, Jr. Acknowledged as one of the most knowledgeable artisan bakers in the country, Michael has shared the recipes and techniques developed at his bakery in his rural country farmhouse in upstate New York with master bakers around the country.
Klinger's bakers have been thoroughly trained in the methods and subtleties of bread baking. Our breads are made from starters which are allowed to develop over a 30 hour period.

The state Health Department inspection program rates restaurants
on 44 measures of food handling and housekeeping. The department has put extra emphasis on 13 of the measures....These "critical" items must be corrected during the time of inspection.... Points are subtracted from a score of 100 for each failing noted by the inspector..... A restaurant must score above 70 and have all critical items corrected or the establishment will be asked to close. The Burlington Free Press keeps a running list of the most recent score for all restaurants, listed by town (or for all towns in Vermont).
