Hollywood Style Swing
(a.k.a. Dean Collins Style Swing or Smooth Style Swing) is a form of the Big Band Era Swing. This style of swing reproduces the movement, style and dance patterns of the Hollywood dancers who were filmed in movies during the 1940s. The fast footwork and smooth movements of this dance make it one of the more popular forms of swing dance today.
Brandy Anderson began swing dancing in 1993 in Santa Barbara, CA where he learned from the several local world class instructors such as Johnathan Bixby & Sylvia Sykes and Rob van Haaren. After graduating from UCSB in 1996, he moved to Vermont to attend graduate school at the University of Vermont. Starting with only 5 dance students in the Fall of 1996, Brandy's classes steadily grew. Currently, classes are often filled to capacity with upwards of 50 students per class. All classes are taught in a casual, fun and friendly atmosphere where the dance steps and fundamental techniques are presented in a thorough and concise manner.
