Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts
The Bus Barns Project is on display at the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts. The Firehouse Center celebrates "The Bus Barns Project" through February 18. The Bus Barns Project was a site-specific performance event that took place in June, 2000 at the Vermont Transit bus repair barns on North Winooski Avenue in Burlington. Directed by Hannah Dennison, the performances honored the historic public transportation site and opened the door for its transformation into affordable rental housing and start up business.
Coming In February: Process/Progress III February 23 -April 1. Back by popular demand, this is the 3rd time that a dozen artists set up studio in the gallery itself, allowing visitors the chance to watch the creation of artworks in a variety of media. A "Closing" Reception will be held on Friday, March 23 from 5 -7 pm. NOTE: This is the last regular Firehouse exhibit before renovations begin.

Burlington City Arts Appoints New Development Director
Burlington City Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Ray Repp as Director of Development for both BCA and the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts.
Mr. Repp comes to the position via an unusual, albeit creative path. Guitarist, songwriter and proprietor of his own music publishing business in both New York and Maryland, he has composed and recorded eleven albums of songs that have been translated into as many as 28 different languages. He has also served as County Director for the Tompkins County, NY Head Start Program in addition to working as a liturgical arts consultant for the Campus Ministry Department at Cornell University .In addition to Mr. Repp's extensive professional arts and administrative experience, he is perhaps best known for his liturgical book of original compositions entitled" The Mass for Young Americans"'. Shortly after this book was published and distributed during the mid-60's, United States bishops approved the use of guitar and other musical instruments at Catholic masses. Thus, Mr., Repp is credited with creating the Christian contemporary "folk Mass." No small feat!
Mr., Repp's wide and unusual range of talents complement those of current employees at Burlington City Arts, who are known for their creative approaches to BCA/Firehouse programs, services and advocacy. He assumes the position formerly held by Mia Fitzsimmons. Ms, Fitzsimmons will continue as the Coordinator for the Capital Campaign for the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts.
At the Movies: "Emulsion" is Burlington's new cine-club, featuring screenings of films and videos by local filmmakers. It's FREE and happens every other Sunday at Club Metronome from 6:30- 9:30 pm. For more information or to submit a film, call 865-PUNK.
